The Idea
When so many things in this world seem to be falling apart, it's sometimes paralyzing to know how to help. Instead of doing nothing, we decided to just start. We know we can’t save the world - but by doing something, it might be life changing or bring peace to someone’s world.
We choose a cause each year by thinking globally about the issues facing our world, and finding a local non-profit where our help would make a big difference. We simply take what we are good at— throwing a hell of a party— to make this a reality! We invited friends to a rooftop party in exchange for a donation, and Sips for Support began. It's amazing what we can do together.
Our Impact
2017
First up: helping four families of Syrian Refugees in Chicagoland. Take a look at our "2017 Impact" page to read up on the four Syrian families you supported with $3,501 raised from our June 2017 event. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped out- you helped make them feel loved, welcomed, and a little more hopeful about the future. Their perseverance is inspiring, and so are all you charitable people!
2018
Round two: Chicago Public Schools. Take a look at our “2018 Impact” page to get the full story on the reach of your donations. Together, we raised $5,086 which allowed for new books for 3 schools in the CPS. Your support this year was overwhelming, and the impact of your donations will continue far beyond this year and when these books continuously fall into the hands of future students in the years to come. Thank you so much!
2019
In 2019 we partnered with Girls in the Game to support after school sports programs for girls in Chicago. We funded two types of the various programs they run:
First, supported one full year of an elementary after-school sports program, allowing 30 little girls to try a variety of sports and stay active and safe after school. This program is $3000 to run for each school per year, and covers all staff salaries, programming, transportation for the girls, and sporting equipment and supplies. Girls in the Game structures the program specifically to remove barriers that are known to keep kids from participating in sports: there is no cost to the families, and transportation is taken care of, which is critical for working and single parents.
Second, gave a $2,000 college scholarship to Citlali, which she will earn during high-school by coaching younger girls as part of the “Teen Squad”. This program builds leadership skills and sets teens up for success post college while proving a local role model for the younger girls she will coach. In the words of Corazon, a Teen Squad leader who just graduated from high school, “Despite me being a coach to girls and teaching them, they have taught me too. They taught me about love, friendship and patience of course. As a matter of fact, these girls have done much more for me than I could ever do for them. Times when my life felt like it was spiraling out of control, I knew I could always count on my girls every Thursday to put a smile on my face, whether it was Amirah’s funny dance or Brooklyn running up to me as soon as I entered the door to give me a huge bear hug. Because of my amazing experience coaching, I hope to continue coaching when I am in college--just a ten-minute bus ride away! I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to everyone who makes this program possible.”
2020
Despite the fact that our world was an absolute mess in 2020, we did not think that a large group get together was wise. :)
